It is the country of highly diverse and rich geographical, cultural, and religion center. This country is nearly 800 kilometers in length and nearly 200 kilometers wide, with an area of 147181 kilometers square. The Himalayan range is home to eight of the world's ten highest mountain peaks, snow capped throughout the year. 8,850 meters / 29035 feet high Mount Everest / Sagarmatha in Nepali is located on the border with Tibet. The other seven peaks are Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu. This country known for Mount Everest is landlocked in South Asia and is the world's youngest and most visited republic. It is bordered to the north by People's Republic of China and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India. It is easily assessable from Siliguri by direct road to Kathmandu and other major places of interest. It can also be assessed by airways from the air port of Bhadrapur town of Nepal, a couple of hours drive from Siliguri. It is also known as the headquarter of Buddhism as Lord Buddha was born here in Lumbini. Buddhist pilgrimage site and UNESCO World Heritage site in the Kapilavastu district. Nepal has unique cultural heritage, artistic monuments and exotic wildlife. Foreigners except Indians need visa to enter Nepal. Indians however must possess identification papers. Other places of interest include Biratnagar, Birgunj, Janakpur, Pokhara, Nepalgunj, Mahendranagar, Chitwan, Pashupatinath, Pokhra etc. For the record the Kali Gandaki Gorge the deepest in the world and Lake Tilicho the highest lake at 4919 meters are located in Nepal.


Kathmandu is the capital and the largest metropolitan city of Nepal perhaps the most visited city and is named after a structure in Durbar Square called Kaasthamandap. Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Thimi Durbar Square, Changu Aryan Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath temple, Balkumari Temple / Thimi, Wakachhen Mahadev / Thimi, Golden Window / Thimi, Chabahil, Manjushree Temple in Majipa, Taumandhi Square, Manjushree Tole, Kwan Bahal or the Golden Temple, Aditnath Temple in Chobhar hill village, Palanchok Temple in kavre are few of the places of interest in this capital city. Kathmandu valley comprises of three major cities of Kathmandu, Paten and Bhaktapur which is home to seven of the world heritage site declared by UNESCO. Tribhuvan International airport is located at the eastern end of the city and is nearly 6 kilometers from the city center offering domestic and international flights. Airways are the best mode of transport. Roadways are also good but there is no railway system in Nepal. Patan and Bhaktapur are equally beautiful as Kathmandu and we highly recommend tourist to visit both these places in Kathmandu.


Chitwan District is one districts of Nepal in the western part of Narayani Zone and Bharatpur is its district headquarters. Bharatpur is a commercial centre of south Nepal. It is one of the few remaining serene relics of the Terai. It has rich flora and fauna with over 43 species of mammals, nearly 450 species of birds, 45 species of amphibians and reptiles. One can come across single horned Indian Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis), panthers / leopards, crocodiles, pythons, several kinds of deer. Otter, small Indian civet, large Indian civet, spotted linsang, common palm civet, leopard cat, marbled cat and fishing cat, Indian pangolin, Indian hare and Ganges dolphin are some of the fauna which can also be spotted here. Chitwan National Park is also one of the last refuges of the Royal Bengal tiger. Adventure here includes safari, canoeing, elephant rides, and guided jungle walks. Two nearby National Park are Parsa Wildlife Reserve in the east and Bara Hunting Reserve further east. This national park is approximately 10 kilometers from Bharatpur. Royal Chitwan National Park is a World Heritage Site of subtropical lowlands of sal forests, tall grasslands and ox-bow lakes.


This City of Pokhara is of close to central Nepal located in the west of Kathmandu and lies on an important old trading route between Tibet and India. Headquarters of Kaski District and a major destination of the tourist to this country. One can enjoy the beautiful canyons from higher viewpoints or from the flights. Within a distance of nearly 30 kilometers the elevation rises from 1000 meters to over 7500 meters. The Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu peaks are over 8000 meters and can be seen from Pokhara. Three of the lake named Phewa Tal, Begnas Tal and Rupakot Tal, three caves namely Mahendra, Bat and Gupteswor and a brilliant fall namely Patale Chhango or Devi's fall, three temple Bhimsen temples, Bindhyabasini Temple and Barahi temple, in the island in the Phewa Lake are some of the major attraction of Pokhara. World Peace Stupa situated in the hill is at 1113 meters and is another added attraction. Two of the best viewpoint of Pokhara is Sarangkot nearly 1600 meters and Thulakot. Trekkers and tourists visiting Pokhara are there for the start or end of a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp and Mustang a favorite place among all. Mule caravans still reach this town from Mustang. Pokhara Airport is in the middle of town and has regular flights to Kathmandu, Manang, Jomsom, Bhairahawa and Bharatpur. Helicopters to Manang and Jomsom can also be chartered. Kathmandu is connected by regular and direct flights with Amsterdam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Karachi, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Moscow, Vienna, Bahrain, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Varanasi, Dhaka, Bangalore, Paro, Lhasa, Bangkok, Osaka, etc. Roadways and airways are the two mode of transport. There is no railway system in Nepal.

Tips for traveler 

  • Never carry INR 500 and INR 1000 Rupee Note to Nepal. It’s banned there
  • Things to carry – It is advisable for the guest to carry Photo Identity card and travel documents if possible (Passport size Photograph also). This is required while traveling to Bhutan, Nepal and sensitive international border area, etc. 
  • For medicine the area in remote Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, drug store are nearly non - existing. Other than the regular medicine please try to keep some of the first aid medicines, etc
  • March to October - Comfortable trousers or tracks, jeans, shorts, light t - shirts, comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and caps are all you require as clothing. It may rain anytime and any day so waterproof or umbrella is a good option to keep
  • November to February - Warm jacket besides heavy woolens is a must, inners and layer clothing is necessary. Cap, sunscreen and sunglasses, umbrella during the monsoon months is a wise decision. It may snow / rain anytime and any day so waterproof or umbrella is a good option to keep
  • Other – Please try to carry Torch, camera, books and cell phone - whatever the season! Keep a back up copy of travel documents and reserved tickets. Road map and information are available in all tourist centers and with most of the travel agents / operators.
